Breyer Renew has started to undertake a series of retrofit assessments with B3Living as part of their successful consortium bid to the government’s social housing decarbonisation fund (SHDF). The funding was secured through SHDF Wave 2.1.

“Greener Herts” – a consortium made up of four Hertfordshire-based housing providers including B3Living – has pledged a combined £25million with an additional £14 million provided by the SHDF.

The improvements will benefit a mix of Hertfordshire-based homes – terraced, semi-detached, bungalows and low-rise homes – and will take place over two years.

The programme of works has been designed to improve the energy ratings of the properties as part of tackling cost of living and net zero targets for 2050. Tasks will include External, Internal and Cavity Wall Insulation; Solar PV and Air Source Heat Pump installation; new lighting; improved under floor insulation; and upgraded ventilation measures.

Stephen Rogers is Breyer’s Contracts Manager on this project. He shared his views on this project:

“We’re really pleased to be one of the few contractors selected to carry out EEM works for B3Living. Our experience to date in this relatively new area of property improvements makes us well-placed to deliver the work required. We look forward to helping residents reduce their bills and improve their home environment over the next two years.”

Chris Ellison, B3Living’s Executive Director (Operations), agreed that: “We very much see this work as a priority. Decarbonisation isn’t a “nice to have”: energy efficiency, cost of living, damp and mould, quality of life – it’s all linked. We’re glad to have Breyer on board and pleased to see the project already underway.”
