To support its students and improve their chances during the recruitment process, Barking and Dagenham College and employers including locally based Breyer Group, organised and delivered a Pre-employment Workshop which focused on interview techniques and best practice.
During the morning the college explained the importance of ‘creating a good first impression’ and highlighted the importance of communication, presentation, time management, proactivity and preparation. It explained how these elements are critical during the first few minutes of any interview at any level.
Paula Arkell-Waller, our Employment and Training Officer attended to help students improve their performance and increase their confidence. Paula drew upon her 10 years’ experience in career advice and guidance to ensure that students benefited from their time with her whilst receiving an insight into real life interviews.
Paula said, “The event today was organised in such a professional manner, the students were so confident and this made a real difference as their passion for the subjects shone through. Barking and Dagenham College have set a really high standard with regards to employability support with young people.”
The mock interviews were based upon students desired career paths and were followed by a Q&A session where students could ask us and other employers interview and career related questions.
