We’re really pleased with the results of our improvement works on Kelvedon House in Lambeth. This striking building is well-known in the area for its distinctive two-tone look, which has now been restored thanks to the installation of new A1 fire-rated cladding.

Wayne Dart, Operations Manager for this contract, comments:

“Kelvedon House is one of the most recognised buildings on the Lambeth skyline. Its red and cream exterior had become faded and, more importantly, the cladding needed to be replaced with a better fire-rated product. As a result of our works, Kelvedon House now looks great and it’s also safer.

“The programme of works for Kelvedon House started only weeks before the pandemic hit. So, we’ve worked hard to maintain strong client and resident communication and satisfaction throughout. In response to Covid restrictions, we fully reworked the construction phase plan and site rules for minimal disruption to works. Plus, with many residents forced to work at home during the improvements, we also carried out internal checks using a decibel meter to assess and manage noise levels in individual flats.”

As well as new cladding, Breyer installed automatically-operated smoke vents and replaced the roof at Kelvedon House. We also fitted new UPVC windows throughout each flat in just half a day.

Access to the block was challenging during the improvements. However, Breyer still managed to install a temporary ramp to maintain disabled entry; provided uninterrupted access for residents to the undercroft parking areas; and ensured deliveries could continue being made.

As a goodwill gesture, Breyer also redecorated the ground floor community hall and entry area.
