Breyer Group have been a main sponsor of the Langthorne Youthfest for the last two years. In the last year few years, the Ascham Homes community has suffered from increased anti-social behaviour and gang violence. This anti-social behaviour has had a lasting affect on the local community and has highlighted a need for change.
Sue Barnes, an Ascham Homes tenant, is the director and organiser of the Youthfest, which aims to encourage community cohesion and mainly targets teenagers from the area, along with younger children and their families. Entry and activities at the event were free. Further more specialist guest appearances were organised and these included the likes of Lianne Sanderson (previously with Arsenal FC & now with Chelsea FC & England); Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Survivor in the hit TV series, LOST).
In addition to our management and financial contribution, Breyer Group attended on the day and also invited East Potential to promote the ‘Construct Your Career’ programme (which aims to up-skill those interested in a career as a tradesman) and ‘Kick it Out’ to promote kicking racism out of sport. Other companies in attendance included the Olympics Bid Team, the Damilola Taylor Trust, the Army and the Navy and the Metropolitan Police.
Residents turned up in their hundreds. The Format of both events was similar and included a guest appearance, live performances from local residents that ranged from choreographed dance routines to singing from Tom Hood School, Downsell School and Cann Hall School.
