The government has set out major reforms to the benefits system in an effort to fight poverty and support people in finding work with the ‘Get Britain Working’ initiative. Breyer Group is fully committed to helping people within the communities in which it serves find employment and provides a number of work placement opportunities as a first step towards this.

Opportunities have been provided in Lewisham, Kensington and Chelsea and we are also looking in other areas such as Islington and Southwark. Two recent placements from Waltham Forest, brought into work as administrators on the Ascham contract, have proved a tremendous addition to the team.

Andray Roach has a BSc in Business Administration and is currently studying for his ACCA Accountancy qualification. He was an immediate hit with the Ascham resident liaison team where his ability to pick things up quickly and considerable computer skills have proved invaluable. He then completed his experience with the accounts department where his sharp accountancy skills were warmly welcomed.

Kathryn Sibley started working with the team of resident liaison officers and site managers booking appointments, updating logs and sending letters. Her articulate, pleasant manner and resourceful organisational skills has endeared Kathryn to colleagues and customers alike. Having gained a BSc in Chemistry and Management, where she completed

a module in HR, Kathryn was keen to gain some hands-on HR experience. Naturally, we were only too delighted to offer her some work within the HR department where she provided fantastic support to the team.

As part of the Government scheme, employers can take on work placements for a maximum of 8 weeks and, although they receive no pay, the placements continue to receive their benefits as usual and have travel expenses refunded. “Both Andray and Kathryn are exceptionally talented individuals, and considering they are not paid, have shown an outstanding attitude and commitment to work” Sophia Reid, Resident Liaison Manager, Breyer Group.

Breyer Group has been able to provide Kathryn and Andray with valuable work experience to go on their CVs together with references highlighting the great work they’ve done. Both are now securing interviews and we wish them every success in their future careers.
