We are committed to ensuring that local people benefit environmentally, socially and economically from our construction activities. It is our policy to employ a minimum of 25% of our workforce from local people for each project we undertake, and we always aim to use local suppliers and sub-contractors wherever possible.
We have put a number of initiatives in place to help us achieve these outcomes. Firstly, we keep a site register of local people looking for employment that matches their experience to the opportunities available. We work closely with local employment agencies and training providers, as well as offering work experience placements through local colleges and TECs. The Breyer Group Apprenticeship Scheme provides the chance for people regardless of age, gender, disability or ethnic background to learn a trade with us. And if anyone needs advice and support on training, CV writing or employment opportunities, our Resident Liaison Officers (RLO’s) are there to supply it.
In conjunction with Skillforce, we always try to employ RLO’s from the communities we work in. As well as giving us a good knowledge of the local area, people and culture, recruiting locally minimises language barriers and ‘travel to work’ time. All RLO’s undertake customer care training to NVQ Level 2.
