We recognise the impact our business activities have on the environment and manage them responsibly through a programme of continual improvement. The Group’s newly acquired ISO 14001:2004 standard shows our commitment to environmental issues. Our Environmental Management System helps control any effects our construction projects may have on the local landscape while identifying cost savings through increased efficiency and productivity.
Our first priority is to reduce the production of waste and minimise any hazardous material. By implementing a Site Waste Management Plan and appointing a Waste Champion on our projects, we actively reduce waste and packaging while increasing the recycling of removed material. The use of FSC accredited timber is high on our agenda, and we use energy efficient appliances within our offices and site compounds to minimise our carbon footprint. We also offer incentives to residents to purchase energy-saving Class A rated appliances for their homes. Disposal is always our last resort option, but where this is necessary we take every precaution to eliminate the risks involved – for example by ensuring our staff undertake annual asbestos awareness courses and ensuring removal work is carried out under controlled conditions.
To ensure our standards remain high, we ensure all our Site Managers attend environmental awareness and site waste management training. We are also registered to Net Regulations ‘Envirowise’ and BRE, and obtain regular updates on changes to legislation and trends.
