Hart Learning & Development are the newly formed commercial division of North Hertfordshire College who are currently working in conjunction with the BBC to deliver a Government backed Traineeship Programme in Stevenage.
This Traineeship consists of 4 weeks pre-employment training followed by 3 weeks work experience with a relevant employer.
Having been appointed by Stevenage Borough Council in 2014 to deliver its Roofing and Planned Maintenance Contract in 2014 (£7.5 million per annum), Breyer Group was asked if they could support 24 year old Joshua who had expressed an interest in completing his traineeship with a construction company.
On his first day with Breyer Roofing, part of Breyer Group, Joshua said, “I am really excited to be part of this team for the duration of my work experience. The most interesting thing will be repairing my own roof. I hope to prove myself during the 3 weeks so I can increase the possibilities of be taken on”.
During his placement Joshua kept a log of the tasks he received which included: Health and Safety Training, general labouring duties and what is required to become a trainee roofer such as tile distribution and finishing.
Joshua excelled throughout and proved his value, so much so that Breyer Roofing had no hesitation in acquiring his services as a Trainee Roofer as soon as he had completed his placement.

Now he is working towards securing long term employment with training and prospects in an industry which is experiencing a severe skills shortage. We will continue to work with Joshua to see if we can facilitate a Roofing Apprenticeship that will ensure Joshua progresses into a long and successful career in Roofing”.
