Asika Isichei one of the local residents found difficulty in gaining local employment and was in and out of work with different jobs for a period of time. Constantly searching for full time work, during a routine visit to the Jobcentre he found a notice from the Breyer Group seeking trainees for various trades. Wherever possible we encourage local residents to join training schemes and support continued learning to develop skills.
After successfully progressing through our robust recruitment process, Breyer Group offered Asika an Apprenticeship in Plumbing Heating (NVQ Level 2) and through a supply- chain partner ‘Parker Bromley’, one-to- one mentoring and personal development was provided. This was the start that Asika was looking who then went on to achieve and develop both as a tradesman and as a person. For example, He has since completed his NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing; achieved a BTEC National Diploma in Construction and Building Studies gaining distinction grades in all six units; and more recently attained his NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating.
He has been an outstanding ambassador for the company and recently supported Breyer Group during our Charity Golf Day where he helped out on the day and also gave a rousing speech about his experience and journey since joining Breyer Group.
In line with our ‘Post Apprenticeship’ aims, we want to continue developing Asika and help him establish a firm basis for further continued employment. Since 2011 Asika has been employed as an ‘improver’ by our Reactive Maintenance Division (B-line).
Asika continues to be appreciative of the opportunity for training and experience and by his own admission; he has learnt many new skills while working for Breyer Group.
The Breyer Group are committed to creating sustainable employment through training opportunities, working with the supply- chain partners demonstrates how training paths leading to full time employment can be achieved.
